At Sunmarke School, we believe the stage is more than a platform for performance – it’s a springboard for life. Our Performing Arts provision, together with the Film & Media and Art & Design faculties, gives students the chance to step into creative spaces where they develop confidence, collaboration, creativity, and communication – skills that will serve them long after the curtain falls.

Building Confidence and Self-Expression

From their first Nativity in Early Years to major Secondary productions like The Wiz, We Will Rock You, and Little Shop of Horrors, Sunmarke students are given the stage – quite literally – to find their voice. Standing under the lights, delivering lines, or leading a band builds the kind of confidence that transfers seamlessly to presentations, interviews, and leadership roles later in life.

Take Emily in Year 9, for example. She began as a shy pupil who joined Drama Club through our Extra Curricular Activities(ECA) programme. Two years later, she was playing a lead role in Mary Poppins, not only mastering stagecraft but also learning how to collaborate, take risks, and speak with conviction – skills her teachers now see reflected in the classroom.

Enhancing Communication Skills

Performing Arts at Sunmarke goes beyond acting. Pupils explore storytelling, debate, voice projection, and movement, while Film & Media students take on scriptwriting, journalism, podcasting, and video editing. They learn to communicate across multiple platforms – from delivering Shakespearean monologues to producing original short films.

These opportunities mean our students leave school not only as articulate thinkers but as versatile communicators who can adapt their message for any audience.

Fostering Creativity and Innovation

In today’s fast-changing world, creativity is essential. Whether composing original music, choreographing a dance sequence, editing a film trailer, or designing stage sets, students are encouraged to take risks, test ideas, and approach challenges with imagination.

Our electives and Extra Curricular Activities(ECA) strengthen this further – from Choir and Orchestra to Film Club and Technical Theatre. These experiences allow students to discover passions, develop talents, and even consider future careers in the arts and creative industries.

Developing Teamwork and Leadership

Every performance is a team effort. Students step into a range of roles – actors, directors, stage managers, lighting designers, or sound engineers – learning to rely on one another while also taking initiative. This mirrors professional working environments, teaching pupils to collaborate effectively, respect different perspectives, and lead with empathy.

Linking Creativity to the Wider Curriculum

The Performing Arts are not an isolated subject at Sunmarke – they connect across disciplines. English Literature supports script analysis, History informs costume design and context, while ICT and Media fuel digital storytelling. This interdisciplinary approach helps students see the relevance of their creative projects within a broader academic framework.

Preparing Students for the Future

Creativity, adaptability, and emotional intelligence are highly valued in today’s world. Careers in law, business, healthcare, and technology all demand the ability to communicate clearly, present persuasively, and work collaboratively. By nurturing these skills through Performing Arts, Film & Media, and Art & Design, Sunmarke ensures its students graduate as high achievers who are also confident, resilient, and future-ready.

More Than Performance: A Pathway to Lifelong Skills

At Sunmarke, Performing Arts isn’t just about the applause. It’s about the lessons learned on stage, in the rehearsal room, and behind the camera – lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and self-expression.

As our students step into the spotlight, they are also stepping into themselves – learning not just how to perform, but how to thrive.
